I’ve been searching online and I can’t seem to find anything. I think I should have a right to know where my roots came from without having to pay a “low monthly price”. It’s ridiculous. Does anyone know where I can find out where my ancestors came from for free?

My family is almost all gone – mom/dad/granddad/aunts/uncles, etc. There’s just brothers and sisters, and a bunch of cousins.

Well, one of my cousins collected a lot of documents from the past – obits, cemetery records, divorce papers, etc. I have three boxes full of family stuff. Sort of the self-appointed keeper of the genealogy.
I started digitalizing the photos which are into the hundreds and will put them on disk. But the other paper documents which are historical to my family – I don’t know what to do with them? Is there a historical society that keeps family records?I don’t trust to give these docs to my nieces & nephews, they could care less.
Thanks all.

For instance, how would I find who my grandfather’s parents were from the data available? I see lots of names, but no children or parent information.
